Professor Cendol, Tok Bali, Kelantan

Professor Cendol is a local food franchise that looks to be growing every single day. I think I've passed more than 5 of these shops during my drive from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu.

These shops serve Malaysian favourites such as cendol, rojak, Laksa Penang and fried rice just to name a few.

Their motto is "Layee Sapa Kenye", a Kelantanese slang which translates to Eat Till You Drop. The red signboard really, and I mean really catches your attention.

A concept that I think they pioneered is pay once and you can refill for free. But there's a catch, say you ordered a manggo cendol or ice cream cendol, you can only refill the regular type of cendol with no additional toppings.

So far the franchise is available in Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and even Johor. I do hope that they can one day expand to neighbouring countries and who knows, maybe even Europe.

The place itself is quite clean and the staffs are friendly. But it can be much better though, when you factor in other big name franchises such as KFC, Baskin Robbins etc.

Ordering is simple enough. I loved how bright and big all the signs are.

Me and my dad ordered a cup of cendol each, one bowl of asam laksa and one serving of rojak buah.

Their rojak buah is quite nice. I have no qualms about it

For their asam laksa, I would have liked it more if it is a bit more sour. The portion is very generous.

As for their cendol, well it was good but it can be much better. Their santan was creamy and delicious, the sticky rice that my father had was good, the mango serving that I had was delicous.

But their cendol has this bitter aftertaste that I disliked. I was full after one cup

All in all I think Professor Cendol is worth a visit. The taste of the cendol is a bit of a bummer but if they improve on it, I think the can go very far.

Besides Kelantan, Professor Cendol is also available in Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Johor as well.
